From Paris, France & Columbus, GA
Background Violin studies with Paris Opera violinist Carole St. Michel; Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra violinist, Jeanne Majors; and Opera Colorado violinist, Master Mentor at Denver School of the Arts, and Executive Director of the Colorado Bach Ensemble, Ben Tomkins. Music school in Luxembourg and second violin in the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus.
Instrument Experience Violin since 1998
My Favorite Music Very broad! I love classical, of course, but I also love to listen to jazz, bluegrass, folk, classics from the 1940s-80s, math rock, pop-punk, and choral sacred music. I like to sing in harmony whenever I get the chance.
My Musical Influences For classical: Ray Chen, Janine Jansen, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Itzhak Perlman; Jazz: Stéphane Grappelli and Jean-Luc Ponty; and Bluegrass fiddlers Sarah Jarosz, Bronwyn Keith-Hines, and Alison Krauss. My favorite musical influences outside the violin are such a long list that there’s no room here!
My Hobbies Novel writing, cooking and baking, deep philosophical conversations, covering my favorite songs with musical friends, relaxed hikes in nature, and lately watching K-dramas :)
Fun Fact I was once an extra in a movie with Kathy Bates and Kenneth Branagh!
My Teaching philosophy
I'm delighted to introduce beginner students to the beauty of the violin and share my love of music with them. I take a listening and collaborative approach, because I believe students learn best when they feel personally invested in the music they play.
Musical Longevity
I also believe in carefully establishing healthy habits and technique early on to prevent injury and allow students to play as freely as possible. To this end, I strongly encourage active parent learning and participation in the first months their child is learning the instrument.
Unique sources of inspiration
I draw from an eclectic repertoire including Suzuki, Mimi Zweig, and several French books I find helpful for beginning players.
